ProSeries Data to TaxAct Professional Conversion

Switching your tax software can be a trying experience.  TaxAct Professionals’ data conversion tool will allow you to easily import your existing ProSeries federal 1040 individual data into our software.  Below, you can see what is converted and what is not converted before you started the process.

Steps to Converting Your ProSeries Data

Before you start the process, make sure you have downloaded a copy of your client data to a local storage location.

In the TaxAct Professional software, go to your Client Manager, click the “Add Client” button and follow the steps below:

  1. Select your previous years software
  2. Remember to disable all passwords/locks on your client data files
  3. Choose the files/folders of data you would like to convert
  4. Review the conversion results and hit OK. (You can export the results if you like.)

The data has been automatically added to your TaxAct Professional software and will be reflected in the Client Manager as a “converted” client.

ProSeries Federal 1040 individual files (all files ending with .21i or .21i extension)

How do I back up my data for Conversion?

Back up your files by storing a copy of them in on your local drive or the Cloud.

What should I do to prepare for TaxAct Professional data conversion?

  1. Check system requirement (found at the bottom of the link below) to make sure your system meets or exceeds the minimum or recommended requirements. https://www.taxact.com/professional/products/federal-basic#pro-system-requirements
  2. Make sure you have a stable internet connection
  3. Remove any locks or passwords on clients’ files before beginning .

 

What is the expected time to convert a file to TaxAct Professional?

Conversion time depends on the number of files or returns your are converting at a given time.

What do I do when a client’s data fails to convert?

When the data fails to convert, first export the results to a CSV file and check the reasons for the errors.  You can then retry conversion with the errors corrected.
